Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP)
Is ketamine safe?
Ketamine has been used safely in medical settings for decades. When administered in a controlled clinical environment and combined with therapeutic support, it can be a safe and powerful part of a treatment process. All ketamine sessions in our program are overseen by licensed medical professionals at Catalyst Insight Collective.
Will I be “put under” during the session?
No. Ketamine sessions typically involve an altered state of awareness rather than full anesthesia. Clients remain conscious throughout the experience — the goal is to create a receptive, open mental state that supports deeper therapeutic work, not sedation.
Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy covered by insurance?
Coverage varies depending on the specific service, provider, and insurance plan. Our team is happy to help discuss costs and potential options during your consultation. We encourage you to reach out so we can help clarify what to expect financially before you commit.
Do I need to be an existing Kind Waters client to participate?
No. New clients are warmly welcome to inquire about the KAP program. The initial consultation will help us understand your history, goals, and whether this approach is likely to be beneficial for you specifically.
How do I get started?

Psychiatric medication management
Do I need to be in therapy to get medication?
No, therapy is not required for psychiatric medication management. While we encourage the combination of medication and counseling for optimal mental health outcomes, we understand that some individuals may only need medication support. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner can provide standalone medication management services while also helping coordinate with therapy services if desired.
Do you work with my current therapist?
Absolutely! Collaboration with your current therapist is a cornerstone of our approach. With your permission, we coordinate closely with your therapy provider to ensure your psychiatric care and counseling work together seamlessly. This integrated approach often leads to better treatment outcomes and more comprehensive mental health support.
How often will I need follow-up visits?
Follow-up frequency depends on your individual needs and medication type. Initially, we typically schedule appointments every 2-4 weeks to monitor medication effectiveness and side effects. Once your psychiatric medication is stable, visits may extend to every 1-3 months. For controlled medications or complex cases, more frequent monitoring may be necessary.
Can you prescribe controlled medications?
Yes, as a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Chris can prescribe controlled medications when clinically appropriate. This includes medications for ADHD, anxiety disorders, and other conditions requiring controlled substances. Prescription monitoring and regular patient evaluation are integral parts of our controlled medication management to ensure both safety and effectiveness.

Insurance and payment
How do I verify my insurance benefits for mental health services?
Our billing team can help verify your benefits before your first appointment. We recommend calling your insurance company directly or checking your member portal online. Key information to ask about includes: mental health coverage, copay amounts, deductible requirements, and any prior authorization needs.
What if my insurance doesn’t cover mental health services?
Under the Mental Health Parity Act, most insurance plans are required to provide mental health coverage equal to medical coverage. If you’re having issues with coverage, our team can help advocate for your benefits. We also offer sliding fee scale options for those paying out-of-pocket.
Can I use my HSA or FSA for therapy services?
Yes! Mental health services, including therapy and counseling, are eligible expenses for both Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). We provide detailed receipts that include all necessary information for HSA/FSA reimbursement.
What is your sliding fee scale program?
Our sliding fee scale program offers reduced rates based on household income and family size. This program is designed to make our services accessible to individuals and families who may not have insurance coverage or who prefer to pay privately. Contact our office to discuss your specific situation and determine eligibility.
Do you offer payment plans for therapy services?
Yes, we understand that mental health care is an important investment, and we’re willing to work with clients to arrange payment plans that fit their budget. Please speak with our billing team to discuss options that work best for your financial situation.
